Granted, a role model is the kind of person you want to emulate, but a true model has to be someone you can relate to. It does little good to select a basketball player as a role model if you’re barely tall enough to be allowed on the adult rides at Disney World – unless what you’re emulating is his character and not his athletic skill. Even so, you’ll soon realize that it’s the close-at-hand adults in your life – your parents, teachers, youth leader – that will have the greatest effect on your character, because you’re constantly observing the way they handle the nitty-gritty details of everyday life. That’s a far cry from the media-filtered image that a celebrity wants you to see.<br /><br /> Make no mistake about it, you, too, are a role model, whether for a peer or a sibling or a kid in your neighborhood. No matter what you do, others, particularly younger others, are watching how you handle the ordinary details of everyday life s well. You are having an effect on them, whether good or for bad. That’s another reason why it’s critical for you to understand that the words you speak cannot be called back and that the actions you take cannot be erased from the minds and imaginations of others.<br /><br /> Don’t ever think that your life is so insignificant that you won’t influence someone else. You not only affect the people around you now, but you will also affect generations to come, through your future children. As the saying goes, you may be the only Bible that some people read; the way you live your life stands as a silent witness to your faith in God. That’s a daunting thought, but as always, God is right there to take the pressure off.
